Playing some of his concert instruments was an equal pleasure. I decided then and there that I would have Manuel’s best work in my own gallery. From the Lacote to the Torres to the Hauser to his own Anniversario, I was so immensely taken with his guitar’s ability to voice the music authentically, with subtlety, and with grace. The Anniversario guitar is mighty special, on a class with the powerhouses of this generation. Celebrating 50 years of building from 1957, Manuel has built select few of these guitars, this particular Cedar Double Top being one of a few select instruments built in 2013. For some reason, Manuel forgot to number the guitar, so I’m going with 2013? LOL Double Top with Nomex, utilizing the ultimate in Manuel’s experimental tech, this guitar really tells you something immediately. First, I played her softly. Nice. As I played I became more aggressive, where the guitar handled the volume increase magnificently. Voicing was even and balanced, separation and clarity exceptional. Warm yet vibrant. By the time I was done, I was smiling, saying, ‘whooo’, which is always a good thing. The Madagascar Rosewood is a wonder to behold, being of dark red, rich ruddiness, streaked with deep chocolate browns. Manuel uses nothing but his best stock of old seasoned woods to create his singular creations of this level. The headstock is magnificent, mindful of top notch German aesthetic. Raised fingerboard as well. The Mother of Pearl highlights in the Rosette is simply deadly beautiful. The guitar was handled inappropriately during a string change, thus the string ding visible behind the bridge (even with a protective golpe?). There is some honest play wear on the guitar as well as some slight discoloration on the top, treble side? of the upper bout and by the rosette. I do not know how this happened, as my gallery has zero sunlight. Clearly, this happened before I received the guitar. It is new, but has seen a few hands over the years. A dealer trade off, the guitar has never been outside of the gallery. The price includes a Luthier HSC and our Accessory Package. I have lowered the price of this particular guitar to $4995? We just changed the strings, cleaned her up again (part of our quarterly maintenance of every single guitar in the gallery), noticed the slightest little bit of play wear on the top along with a bit of fading on the top. Nothing structural, it is all cosmetic. No brainer, I lowered the price. Somebody please take advantage of this monster of a guitar at this price! Yikes!!
