Action 3.9mm & 3.2mm at low E to high E, 12th fret, unfretted CITES Not Required for these woods – see link to the left 1977 Jose Ramirez 1A Cedar EIRW Comments: This beautiful and classic Jose Ramirez 1A has had two cracks repaired on the back and are stable. There is a small ding in the top, string rash behind the bridge, but nothing of any consequence. Typical play wear but slight, given her age of almost 40 years. Some string rash behind bridge. A few minor nail ticks in and around the rosette. Fewer than you would believe. Looks like a music stand ding in the lower bout right by the butt. A square splice top bout treble side under neck on top, size of a match head. Well done. I took photos of everything I could for your convenience. There is no question she is played, but she’s also a phenomenal instrument, which is why I took her for the gallery. I took a shot of the interior stamp # which I believe is #18 built by Manuel Alonso Giménez who worked with the Ramirez family from the early 1970’s – 1980’s. Interior examination shows the Cypress lining of the sides, typical of 1A’s of the period. This guitar plays and sounds stunning in that fat and round Spanish/Ramirez fashion. I’m always reminded of Segovia when I play this guitar, with his big ole sausage fingers. Personally setup to play fast and more easily than your typical Ramirez setup. Believe me, I know. I’ve setup tons of these guitars over the years. They come in high from Spain and need work. I did what needed to be done here so she plays really well. In fact, you can’t believe she’s a large scale, she’s that comfortable. ______________________ Media Listening with high quality headphones or audio equipment is highly recommended including EQ manipulation, if possible. We record everything flat with just a touch of Reverb to relieve dryness. My goal is to record the guitar as realistically as is possible. I speak in the recordings, my thoughts about the guitar (and possibly other things?). My speaking also serves to give you my first impressions and to also give you a balance of the engineering (or lack thereof) versus the sound of the guitar.
